Hi There,

I schedule a task to scan for existence of software as I deploy but how come the "Merge Output Data" get lesser and lesser?

All Objects - Merge Output Data: Re-run the scope action on the full scope and merge the resulting report data with the existing one. This mode is useful to generate an asset management data set.

I need to know how you defined the Scope of the Scope Action. Is it a static list of computers, and AD Container, or an IP Range?

If your scope includes an IP Range or an AD Site range, then a Merge Data action may remove historical nodes if they are no longer part of the re-run scope.

For instance:

You run the scope action once and the computer with IP 192.210.11.12 is alive. This node is then queried and included in the report. If you do a re-run merge data later on and this IP is no longer pingable, then this node is no longer part of the scope and Goverlan (wrongly) thinks that this node no longer exists and removes it.

We will update the merge algorithm so that if the scope definitions includes an IP Range or an AD Site, historical nodes are not removed (I can provide you with a hotfix for this).

Let me know if this is what is happening....

our system are on DHCP and every floor has a different range. users move around floors and offices on the same day and any time of the day. They are not in office all the time cos we are notebook users.

A fix has been implemented in Goverlan v7.01.36
(a download link to this version will be emailed to you separately).

In v7.01.36: If a scope action's scope is defined using an IP Range and/or an AD Site, the Re-Run Merge Data will not remove any historical information from the report.

Please confirm that your scheduled scope action is now generating the expected data.

You need to email to me your scope action definition file so that we can test it here further.

You can mail it at support@goverlan.com
